Thinking with a Pen: Artificial Intelligence

At every conference I’ve attended over the past three years, there have been presentations on AI marked by enthusiasm, curiosity, and often concern as well. Personally, I consider AI to be an interesting tool, but one that should be used with great responsibility. To do so, it’s important to be aware of the problem areas: the potentially devastating effects of any AI interaction on the environment and local communities. The unreliability of the results AI delivers and potential impacts on the future of learning and thinking. Risks associated with using AI on a personal level: manipulative behavior, the sexualization of interactions, and discriminatory attitudes on the part of AI.

I believe that the impact on the generations growing up with AI will be enormous, and that it is necessary to raise awareness and for governments to take regulatory action. The goal is to regulate the technology and prevent—or at least minimize—the harm it can cause. In this regard, I find the work of the Ethical AI Alliance (https://ethicalaialliance.org/)—which I learned about during a talk by Asma Derja at the Culttech Summit 2025—to be very important. Their articles have repeatedly inspired me to explore individual aspects of this topic through my drawings.

As for the impact of AI on art, I’m not quite as pessimistic. I believe that art is something deeply human, and given the abundance of soulless AI-generated content currently flooding the market, the human, imperfect, and handmade will likely gain in significance and be more highly valued. But who knows…

In this blog post, I’ve compiled all the drawings and videos I’ve created on the topic of AI over the past few years, and I’ll continue to add to them.
