I live and work in beautiful Vienna, the capital of Austria. Here I teach German as a foreign language to students from abroad who want to study at one of the Viennese universities. A main focus of my teaching activities is the creation of materials for my own teaching, but also for different organizations. (see list of teaching materials) Since 2022 I have also been involved in teacher training and continuing education, trying among other things to introduce teachers to sketchnotes – most recently at IDT 2022 in Vienna.

In the same year, I was able to create my first sketchnote video as part of a materials package on the use of digital tools in foreign language teaching. This first attempt at sketchnote videos was quite successful and ultimately led me to take the plunge into part-time self-employment. Since September 2024, I have been creating videos for various institutions as part of my part-time commercial activity as a film producer. So far, I have published the film adaptation of the ‘Vienna Theses on Language Policy’ and the video series ‘Language as a Key’. In addition to my teaching activities, I also work on the creation of teaching materials for BIMM (https://bimm.at/) and, as part of this work, I was able to do my first graphic recording at the BIMM network conference in April 2025.

I’ve been passionate about sketchnotes for many years now, drawing whenever I can, reading sketchnote books, taking online courses, and enjoying the exchange in online communities like Doug Neill’s “Verbal to Visual”. Drawing helps me understand and communicate things better, but most importantly, it brings something very unique, playful, and light to my everyday life. My sketchnotes often make me smile myself and while drawing I can relax and activate myself at the same time. For the International Sketchnote Camp 2023 in Leiden I created the following sketchnote selfie, which summarizes quite well what fascinates me about sketchnoting.

I like sketchnotes because they don’t claim to be perfect and I can simply be playfully creative. In general, I need art and creativity in my everyday life to be happy. I love to develop ideas, to enjoy something beautiful with other creative people, to visit exhibitions and concerts and to track down interesting details in nature and in the cityscape.

And I’m happy to share it all not only on my Instagram and LinkedIn channels, but also here on my website. 🙂
